Honey Boo Boo's Uncle Poodle Reveals He's HIV-Positive
The Here Comes Honey Boo Boo family isn't generally known for speaking out on serious issues, but that could change, thanks to series star Lee "Uncle Poodle" Thompson. In a new interview with Atlanta magazine Fenuxe, the openly gay Thompson talks about the importance of safe sex -- and reveals that he was diagnosed as HIV-positive last year.

"I was adamant about getting my HIV status checked on a regular basis," the TLC standout explains of how he learned the news. "On March 16, 2012, I tested negative. Then, in May of 2012, my test results came back positive. I knew it had been my boyfriend who infected me. I later learned he had been HIV-positive and was not taking medication and had not bothered to tell me about it."

Thompson says he was advised to press charges against his now-ex, which he did, somewhat "hesitantly." The man is currently serving a five-year sentence in jail for the crime.
"I would have been cool with his HIV status if he had been honest," Alana's uncle tells Fenuxe. "I don't have an issue with the disease. I would have known how to protect myself."

The star stresses that everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, should practice safe sex. Those who don't "are damn fools," he says. "They are playing Russian roulette; they are playing with their lives and that of their sexual partners."

Mexican shootout that killed beauty queen linked to Fast and Furious
Another gun sent to Mexico under the White House’s “Fast and Furious” program has been found beside a murdered Mexican, just as the White House prepares to launch a large-scale political campaign built on the Dec. 14 massacre of 26 Americans in Newtown, Conn.
The dead Mexican, Maria Gamez, was killed in a shootout Nov. 23 shootout between cops and drug-runners. The incident made headlines because a Mexican beauty queen was killed in the exchange of fire. Though Maria Susana Flores Gamez reportedly had a gun in her hand, police said she was likely used as a human shield when the men in the car she was traveling in pushed her out in front of them.
More than 150 Mexicans have been killed or wounded by the Fast and Furious guns, according to Humbert Benitez Trevino, a former attorney general of Mexico

Brazil Hosts First Transgender Beauty Pageant
"This contest is key for the visibility of us. We transgender woman suffer a lot from prejudice and discrimination, whether we are pretty or not, rich or poor."
That's how one contestant describes Brazil's first transgender beauty pageant, staged Oct. 30 in Rio de Janeiro. The event is particularly historic in the Latin American nation, where transgender citizens have been targets of violence in recent months. As Perez Hilton pointed out, "The contestants all strutted their stuff for the judges, but the pageant was about so much more than just winning."
Last month, a transgender woman known simply as "Madona" died after being stoned by a group of unknown assailants in Aracaju, the capital of the state of the Brazilian state of Sergipe, Gay Star News reported.
It's been quite a year for transgender beauty queens worldwide. In May, Jenna Talackova and while she didn't win, the story of her struggle was certainly embraced by the international media.

Biden: LGBT discrimination the ‘civil rights issue of our time’
Vice President Joe Biden (Blade photo by Michael Key)
Vice President Joseph Biden apparently called LGBT discrimination the “civil rights issue of our time” before an Obama campaign office in Florida, according to a pool report.
According to The Tribune’s Michael Memoli, Biden made the remarks to a woman in Sarasota, Fla., following a speech he delivered to supporters at a local campaign office.
He singled one woman out who he thought had beautiful eyes. She said something to her at first inaudible to pool, to which VP responded was the “civil rights issue of our time”
Pool later asked the woman, Linda Carragher Bourne of Sarasota about the exchange. She said her daughter was Miss Trans New England and asked if he would help them.
“A lot of my friends are being killed, and they don’t have the civil rights yet. These guys are gonna make it happen,” she told the pool.
According to LinkedIn, a Linda Carragher Bourne works as a freelancer writer in Sarasota and is an editor a Self Magazine, an magazine for women’s health and fitness. The most recent winner of Miss Trans New England, according to the pageant’s website, is Nicole Hamidi.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether Biden’s reference to the “civil rights issue of our time” was meant to indicate LGBT discrimination in general or, more specifically, transgender discrimination.
Biden has been among the most outspoken officials in the Obama administration in his support for LGBT rights. His endorsement of same-sex marriage preceded President Obama’s when he said in May during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he’s “absolutely comfortable” with married gay couples having the same rights as straight couples.
Over the course of the presidential campaign, Biden has engaged in LGBT outreach. Before a crowd at the prominent gay resort town of Provincetown, Mass., Biden said in August that LGBT Americans are “freeing the souls of the American people” and gay activists aren’t just fighting for their own civil rights, but the “civil rights of every straight American.”
